THE CLOCK AND WATCH STORE Click images to enlarge Description Maker: Wakmann Breitling Watch Company c.1960's Model: Triple Date Tri-Compax Chronograph ref. 73.1308.21 Description: This is a vintage men's Wakmann Breitling chronograph wristwatch triple date tri-compax powered by a 17 jewel Valjoux 730 hand winding movement in a gold plated case for restoration. The watch is currently running and keeping decent time and has been for the last 8hrs. Although it is running, it is being sold as a non-running watch due to not having any service records and whether there are any underlying issues. The chronograph function starts, stops and resets to zero nice and crisp. The date and day advance properly but just not right at 12. The date flips around 5 minutes before and the day will flip some time after. The gold plated/gold filled case shows wear through on the gold plating with a spot here and a spot there with the edges of the lugs just starting to break. There is a larger spot underneath where it rides the wrist that is worn through but can't be seen when wearing it. The stainless steel back unscrews nicely with no evidence of cross-threading. The movement is nice and clean looking showing no moisture damage and has good motion on the balance wheel. The dust covers are missing from the indicator buttons for the month and the date hand. Both work properly and advance the date hand and month disc nice and smoothly. The dial and hands are in very good condition showing a nice, evenly aged finish. The acrylic crystal has scratches throughout but nothing too deep that wouldn't polish out. The original signed crown has much wear and is almost slippery when you try to wind the watch. The chrono buttons are also showing wear to the gold plating. The bracelet is a NOS gold plated bracelet that currently fits a 7 1/8" wrist and has about 3/8" - 1/2" of adjustment available for larger wrists. The watch is a nice example of this model and all the functions seem to operate properly. The ONLY reason it is being sold as a non-running watch is that it is presumed the buyer will have it serviced prior to wearing as to optimize the performance and avoid internal damage from running a dry movement.
