Description: Virginia Dare was the first English child born in the New World, in the territory of the colonies, Roanoke, Virginia in 1587. She was named after the territory. Her grandfather was the first governor of the first colony, what is now known as North Carolina. She was known as "The First Lady of The Land". This company was first started in 1835, and first known as Garrett and Company. The name was changed to the Virginia Dare Extract Co. in 1923, by Bernard Smith. Most of the bottling was done in Worcester, Massachusetts, but the company was still based in Brooklyn, New York. They are still in business today. On the face of this nice rare size bottle, it reads, "Virginia Dare Quality Beverages, The First Lady of The Land". On the backside, "The Fine Old Name Virginia Dare, Long associated with the best beverages made. It is you assurance of quality in flavor always. Bottled under authority Virginia Dare Extract Co. Brooklyn by Sun-Drop Bottling Co. Inc. Decatur, Alabama 35601". This bottle was made by the Owens-Illinois Glass Works, and is dated 1976, 48 years ago. The condition is very good. The graphics are nice and clean with no missing letters, etc. The bottle has no chips or cracks. The is absolutely no case wear. The bottle is 10 oz. in size and 9 1/2" tall. The cap is a patriotic flag crown cap.
