Description: Vtg 48 Star U.S.A. Sewn Stripes/Emb. Stars 2' x 3' Flag Copeland Co Wash DC READ Click image to enlarge Description Offered for your consideration is a vintage 48 star United States of America Flag. Made of a cotton bunting, the double sided flag is created with alternating red and white sewn stripes, and the white embroidered stars appear on a navy blue background. It measures 2' x 3' and was crafted by The Copeland Company Flags and Banners of Washington, D.C., and even includes the original Union Label alongside the company label. The Copeland Company was founded by Martin Copeland in 1861 on Pennsylvania Avenue, and his 3 sons continued the business at 409 11th Street in the District. The 48 star flag existed from 1912 until 1959, and I am unsure as to an exact date of the manufacturing of this specific flag. In very good to near excellent 'as found' condition, the flag has no tears or holes and the metal grommets, used for display, show no signs of stress. There is some discoloration to the flag, which probably occurred from age/storage. None of the stars show any unraveling. Truly a perfect size for display or even framing!!
