Item specifics are: Film 1: "The Army Nurse" (1946) B&W Runtime 16 minutes This excellent film from WWII is a tribute to the army nurses who worked tirelessly at the front and at home to care for wounded soldiers. Their experiences are shown in a complete way, from basic training to shipping out to long hours on duty to taking up and putting down field hospitals to using their combat helmets for all kinds of household chores to recreational activities to writing home. We get a real appreciation for how hard they worked and how they really helped ease the suffering of the sick and wounded. This film is an excellent historical document of one aspect of the war that should not be forgotten. Release date: 1946 Entered public domain: 1974 Film 2: "Autobiography of a Jeep" (1943) B&W Runtime 9 minutes This film about every GIs favorite piece of equipment is a lot of fun. For one thing, it's narrated by the Jeep itself. For another, it contains lots of wonderful footage of 40s car designs, jeeps being manufactured, jeeps being exposed to all kinds of abuse and coming through fine, and various celebrities riding around in jeeps. A wonderful piece of World War II nostalgia. Release date: 1943 Entered public domain: 1971 Film 3: "Radio at War" (1944) B&W Runtime 20 minutes This RCA 1944 documentary shows the importance of radio during World War II. It is well written, directed and filmed. Historically, it is very interesting. Entertaining tale about how Radio was so important during WWII.. We follow two brothers as they first discover radio at home by usage of HAM sets, then both of them sign up eagerly for war. both of them get into the radio side of things, and soon are at it, facing an (unmentioned) 'enemy'. Release date: 1944 Entered public domain: 1972 Film 4: "Target Invisible" (1945) B&W Runtime 8 minutes Twilight Zone-like film noir replete with Rod Serling-like narration apparently made in the immediate aftermath of WWII. This film starts out appearing to be an introduction to radar bombing, with the camera following the crew of a B-29 on a late-war mission over Japan. The radar operator seems to be responsible for navigation as well as target identification, and also has to call out speed and crosswind information to the real bombardier in the nose, who then presumably dials these into the Norden bombsite to line the plane up with the target for the final run. At the end of this little film-within-a-film, a smarmy Hollywood host dressed in a nicely tailored uniform comes on to "let us in on a little secret". All of us, including every man woman and child who bought bonds, won the war! Release date: 1945 Entered public domain: 1973 Film 5: "Troop Train" (1943) B&W Runtime 10 minutes Great little film about how one whole troops is transported. vehicles and all, across the country. Told with no narration, the film follows the load up of vehicles, the load up of men (love the fact they would have a marching band to send them off) and finally, the train is off! it goes through the country with some great shots here. The troops are allowed out for a bit of exercise and a bit of frolic in the sun and then it ends! Release date: 1943 Entered public domain: 1971 I claim ownership and rights to this media. The films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
