The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Georg Bierlmeier Georg was a World War 1 Veteran as well as having served in WWII. He was awarded the War Merit Cross with Swords and other military and Police decorations. He fell on September 6, 1944 in Croatia at the age of 45.
